Lesson FAQ
Piano Teacher | Educator
At the moment, I am currently only offering online lessons and student in-home lessons. I will resume studio lessons at a later time.
Here are some of the most frequently asked questions I get. If you have another, please feel free to get in touch with me!
How long of a lesson do I need?
30 minute lessons are great for young beginner students.
45 minute lessons are best for adult beginners and late beginner to intermediate students.
60 minute lessons are best for intermediate to advanced students.
Where are piano lessons held?
Lessons are held at my studio in the Heights or in your home if you opt for in-home or online lessons.
Do I need a piano at home? Or What kind of keyboard do you recommend?
You definitely need some kind of practice instrument. Acoustic pianos are always best, but a weighted keyboard will work for beginners. Another middle-ground option is a digital piano step-up for its even heavier weighted keys and closer representation to the piano. This is also a great tool for:
playing duets by themselves
ear training with other instruments/sounds
and for composition tools if the student is interested in writing their own music
How much practice is necessary?
That depends on the student’s age, how advanced they are, and how fast they want to progress. The most important thing is how frequently they practice more than how long they practice. Practicing every day for 15-20 minutes is far better than once a week for an hour.
These are the average practice times I recommend:
Young students and beginners: 10-20 minutes a day
Elementary students: 20-30 minutes a day
Intermediate students: 30-45 minutes a day
Advanced students: 45-60 minutes a day
What books do I need and where do I get them?
You never need to worry about getting books, I’ll supply them for you. Books and materials are included in the tuition.
I’ve worked with several different music books and methods and will choose the best one to suit each student’s learning style. I am constantly researching new materials in order to find the best music for inspiring each student and expanding my library.
Do you teach adults?
Absolutely.
What’s the youngest age student you will teach?
I offer lessons for students as young as ages 4-5 years old.
Do your students get opportunities to perform?
Yes, I offer recital concerts twice a year with other performing options throughout the year. All students are welcome to perform, but not obligated to participate.
What style of music do you teach/can I learn?
I teach a wide variety of music styles. I want my students to enjoy what they are learning and if the student loves it, that’s what matters to me. I include classical, pop, blues, jazz, and rock in my lessons as well as any specific student’s requests. I will however recommend certain songs and some classical music to develop student’s technique and for good progress to be made.
How can I pay my tuition?
You can pay tuition each month, every other month, or semesterly. Bank transfer payments are the most convenient for most students, but you can also pay by cash or check if you prefer.
